INTRODUCTION
Corruption remains one of Nigeria’s biggest obstacles to development. While anti-corruption agencies exist, their impact has been limited by structural, legal, and operational challenges.
Ensuring Independence and Autonomy
For anti-corruption agencies to be effective, they must operate with genuine independence. Political interference has weakened public confidence in these institutions and reduced their ability to act without fear or favour.
Improving Funding and Capacity
Many anti-corruption agencies suffer from inadequate funding and limited technical capacity. Providing them with sufficient resources and modern tools will significantly improve their investigative and prosecutorial capabilities.
Strengthening Legal Frameworks
Existing laws need to be reviewed and strengthened to close loopholes that allow corruption to thrive. Faster prosecution processes and stiffer penalties for offenders will also serve as stronger deterrents.
